When I started to research the weight loss industry I came across a few interesting articles about the health benefits of almonds. The deeper I looked into adding almonds in my diet plan the more I discovered the true benefits almonds have to offer dieters.
The International Journal of Obesity published the results of a study that may change the way dieters think about almonds. City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte California conducted a study to evaluate the cholesterol-lowering effects of almonds. To their surprise they found the weight loss benefits with dieters who added almonds to their plan.
Lead investigator Michelle Wien, Dr.P.H., R.D., found that when she asked volunteers to include raw or roasted almonds in their calorie-restricted diets, their weight-loss efforts were dramatically accelerated.
The study included 65 overweight and obese adults who were placed on one of two diets designed to promote weight loss. The caloric value and protein content of the two diets were equivalent, but only one included a 3-ounce serving of almonds daily.
After 24 weeks, the two groups showed a striking difference in their weight-loss patterns. The almond-eating group lost 62 percent more weight and 56 percent more belly fat than the nut-free group. The almond-eaters also experienced significantly greater reductions in cholesterol and blood pressure.
One of the explanations given for the increase in weight loss due to almonds is the fact that nuts are high in fiber. The fiber in the almonds prevents some of the calories and fat from being absorbed by the human body.
Wien said “The fiber binds with a portion of the fat, so that it doesn’t come into contact with the intestinal wall, it just gets flushed out of the body.”
Adding almonds to your daily diet will help you reduce belly fat at a faster pace than just eating a sensible diet along with an exercise program.
